When the Royals came from Hannover
The electorate of Hannover was associated with the British Kingdom by one king for more than 123 years. The federal state Lower Saxony rememberes this personal union by presenting this historico-cultural exhibition named "Landesausstellung 2014" from May 15 to September 28, 2014.
You will find memorials of the personal union at the exhibition Hannovers Monarchic at the English Throne 1714 - 1837 (Hannovers Herrscher auf Englands Thron 1714 - 1837) which is taking place at the rebuilt Castle of Herrenhausen and four satellite locations.
The main part of the exhibition, which is aimed at the general public in Germany and Great Britain, is the display of the intense exchange in various fields between London and Hannover during the 123 years of this era, when a monarch ruled two realms simultaneously.
There are outstanding exhibits from Niedersachsen, from German, British and international museums and private loans combined with stagings and join-in and multimedia activities. The foundation of the university of Göttingen, the work of Georg Friedrich Händel at London court, the influence of English fashion in Hannover and the display of splendour at London court will be presented.
