More than 36,000 students live in Hannover. Many of them also embark on their careers here. The University is the focal point of a vibrant scene that provides new impetuses to cultural and business life: numerous creative enterprises hammering out new ideas ensure that the transfer of high technology to industry thrives.
From Hannover out into the world
Hannover possesses leading research centres in the fields of production and laser technology. Hannover’s Production Technology Centre (PZH) puts into practice the vision of bringing science and industry together under one roof: it has more than 400 highly qualified scientists and technicians from all fields of science and engineering engaged in collaboration with partners from industry. Hannover Laser Centre provides a powerful incentive for firms to set up research and development facilities close by, and also promotes training closely linked to industrial practice. The privately run GISMA (German International Graduate School of Management) is a cooperation partner of the prestigious Purdue University in the USA.
Leadership in medicine
Hannover is world-famous in both human and veterinary medicine. The Hannover Medical School (MHH - Medizinische Hochschule Hannover) was a pioneer in transplantation; in the field of biotechnology it cooperates closely with companies established in the nearby Medical Park. The School of Veterinary Medicine Hannover (Tierärztliche Hochschule Hannover) is a top international address and maintains partnerships with institutions in some 20 other countries.
Not far from the MHH is the INI (International Neuroscience Institute), a special clinic and research establishment for neurosurgery, neurology, neuroradiology, ear, nose and throat conditions, orthopaedic surgery and internal medicine. Its architecture reproduces in an abstracted form the shape of the human brain.
One ticket – many advantages
Students who are registered as having their main residence in Hannover can obtain a "Home Ticket" that entitles them to a large number of advantages and reductions. Admission to museums, art galleries and many other amenities is substantially cheaper, and the next party at a favourite club may even turn out to be free of charge.
