Skizze vom Günen Ring

Cycling on the outskirts of Hannover: the 160 km long cycle route called “Der Grüne Ring” (“The Green Ring”) passes through some delightful countryside on the outskirts of the city, joining up many attractive places of interest. The Green Ring skirts the city of Hannover for 80 kilometres, and has additional paths going off to the side which allow cyclists to make diversions to places in the vicinity.

One particular feature of this cycling trail is the enormous variety of types of countryside it passes through: in the north the sandy and stony geest with its sparsely vegetated heathland and meadows, in the south the rich, fertile börde with its billowing wheatfields and shady beechwoods, in the east the villages of the historic free federation known as "Das Grosse Freie", and in the west the hills of Benthe and Gehrden, to say nothing of a number of places of interest close to the path that tell of how the landscape was formed and has been used by man over the centuries. To help you find your way, this popular route is marked out in blue: blue posts, benches, fences and other objects will keep you on the right track.
