There is much for garden and plant lovers to discover in Berggarten; countless indigenous and exotic plants thrive in this botanic garden, home to one of the world’s largest orchid collections and many other precious specimens.
Diverse naturally landscaped areas such as the Prairie Garden, herbaceous Perennial Grounds or ‘Paradise’ invite visitors to enjoy the wonders of nature throughout the garden year: masses of magnolia and rhododendron blooms in spring, prairie herbaceous perennials and grasses in late summer and the melancholy moor ponds in winter are just a few of the beauties of Berggarten. 800 blooming orchids and plants from the four corners of the earth are on permanent display in the glasshouses. A 300-year-old lime tree avenue leads to the mausoleum of the Royal House of Hanover, final resting place of Electress Sophie, King George I of Great Britain and many of their descendants.
