Georgengarten was laid out in the 19th century as a landscape garden in the English style, with sweeping views across wide lawns and tranquil ponds framed by carefully-placed noble trees and copses, and typical landmarks such as the Classical temple memorial to Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz set on a peninsula in the main lake.
The focal point of Georgengarten is the idyllically-situated Georgenpalais, a former royal residence that today houses the Wilhelm Busch Museum - German Museum of Caricature and Critical Graphic Art. The palace garden is particularly worth visiting.
Through Georgengarten, the Herrenhäuser Allee, laid out in 1726 with four rows of lime trees, runs for two kilometres from Hannover city centre past the Welfenschloss palace to the Grosser Garten.
