University of Music, Drama and Media Hanover (Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover (HMTMH)) is one of the most renowned arts universities in Germany, training 1,200 students from 55 countries in 15 courses of study as musicians, actors, music teachers and music and media scientists.
HMTMH asserts itself among the international competition with an exceptional range of studies, extending the usual scope of a music college with such subjects as acting and media studies. Musical education concentrates on piano, orchestral praxis, opera, chamber music and new music. The university promotes young talent in these fields: the Institute for the Advancement of Young Musicians has been attended by gifted young people since 2001.
In addition to education, HMTMH contributes to the progress of modern society through research: six scientific institutes study musicians’ medicine, media studies, music education, world music, synagogue music, musicology and gender studies.
Numerous cooperation partners from the worlds of music, theatre and academe ensure praxis-orientated education and open up good prospects students’ future careers. Internships and scholarship programmes are offered to students by the Staatsoper Hannover, Staatsorchester, NDR-Radiophilharmonie, media companies and international theatre projects.
