German art of the 19th century has been experiencing a great boom for some time now - accompanied by new discoveries on the art market, in museums and at universities. The exhibition tells the exciting story of drawing between romance and realism.

Between Romance and Realism

Since the classical period around 1800, hand-drawing had become the leading artistic means of expression. A new zest for capturing hitherto unknown themes was awakened, many artists invented new techniques, and they discussed the fundamental significance of drawing in their work like never before. 50 selected masterpieces from the Kupferstichkabinett of the Landesmuseum Hannover illustrate the versatility of drawing between romanticism and realism. The exhibition presents an important, almost undiscovered treasure and at the same time a leading genre of art of the 19th century.
