Tabea Zimmernann

Tabea Zimmermann is one of the most charismatic musicians of our time. Her brilliant playing technique and touching musicality are appreciated around the world. A solo evening by her, exclusively featuring works from the 20th century, is an outstanding event.

Panorama of Modernism

Tabea Zimmermann opens her panorama of modernism with a Solo-Suite by Max Reger from the year 1916 which summarises Bach’s various models in a pioneering musical language. In "Naturale" (1985), by Luciano Berio, she is joined by a percussionist and recorded sounds of the voice of the Sicilian folksinger Celano.

"Personal Himalaya"

Bernd Alois Zimmermann once described his Sonata for "Solo Viola" (1955) as a form of chorale prelude that translates the text of the chorale "Praise be to You, Jesus Christ" into a process of musical development. György Ligeti’s Sonata for Solo Viola, which was inspired by hearing Tabea Zimmermann in concert and premiered by her in 1994, refers in the course of its six movements to various popular musical cultures from the composer’s Hungarian home, the Balkans, the Ivory Coast and Mali. Tabea Zimmermann has described this tremendously virtuosic and profound work as her ‘personal Himalaya’.
