Oakland-born Steve Gene Leach aka Seasick Steve started performing as a backing musician at local venues at the end of the Sixties. Since then, he has lived in many places around the world - from Paris to Hawaii to England to Norway.
From first sucesses to international fame
He had his first successes in Great Britain in the mid-2000s, later toured the UK extensively before performing at many festivals worldwide and earning two nominations at the Brit Awards.
When asked about his nickname, Seasick Steve said: "It's just true, I always get sick on boats." When he was ill on a ferry in Scandinavia, a friend began using the name playfully - and it stuck.
