Dance: Monument 0.4: Lores & Praxes

Eszter Salamon_MONUMENT 04 Lores and Praxes (a ritual of transformation)
Ten young dancers invite us to follow them into the Galerie and stay with them for a while. The continually changing movements thus summoned up radically blur the stage space; they can be very intimate and physical, but they are always ephemeral. Everything seems to be happening simultaneously and spontaneously, but during the work’s several hours the performers follow a clear dramaturgy that incorporates apparent passivity, song and individual appeal to the audience. A whispering resonance remains to haunt us.
Dance and World History
In her "Monument" series Eszter Salamon relates dance history and world history to one another. In this new work she emphasises ritual aspects, questions unspoken assumptions, boundaries and hierarchies, and with the concept of "lore" (body of tradition, as in "folklore") she explicitly addresses the dissemination of knowledge. Central to "Monument 0.4" is the question: "How much are we changed by what we learn, and how much do we change the content of what is learned?"
About the artist
Eszter Salamon is a choreographer, dancer and performer who has been presenting her solos and ensemble pieces internationally for many years. She uses choreography as a possibility to navigate between various media, such as video, sound, text, voice or movement.
