Performance / Installation: This Here and That There

In a marathon performance from 19 to 21 May, the Croatian-born artist Vlatka Horvat transforms the swanneries of the Großer Garten.

On three consecutive days, viewers can experience the formation of a myriad sculptural arrangements of 200 chairs in the large ponds. "This Here and That There – Herrenhausen Quartet" is an artistic Sisyphean task: with obsessive determination, Horvart and her three co-performers continually order and re-order chairs, only to rearrange them all over again in new constellations. In daily differing eight-hour rituals, the structures the performers make alternate between recognisable shapes and abstract visual forms that resist specific interpretation.

Horvat’s sculptural installations create enigmatic images that evoke everyday stories of movement or stillness and the fascination of continual activity. While new scenes are always developing, the viewers become figures in the changing constellations

Vlatka Horvat’s works and her interventions into public space move between sculpture, installation, drawing and performance.
