Stages

Tanztheater International 2018

Danced prelude to the new cultural season in Hanover: From 30 August to 8 September, the Festival Tanztheater International will whirl across the city's stages for the 33rd time.

Festival venues traditionally include the Orangerie Herrenhausen as the main venue, the Schauspielhaus, Ballhof Eins, Ballhof Zwei and the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover. Festival director Christiane Winter has once again put together a multi-layered programme with handpicked current positions of the international contemporary dance scene. Some of this year's festival actors have already been guests in Hannover in the past, others need to be rediscovered.

Ten Days of Dance

The choreographers have cast their reflections on important topics of our time in individual movement languages: Sometimes full of dynamism and power, sometimes melancholic, sometimes full of humour, but always choreographic and dancing at the highest level. Each festival evening enriches the programme with new aspects and invites regular audiences as well as all newly interested people equally to explore the international dance landscape for ten days in Hanover.

Junior Company

Among the rediscoveries at Tanztheater International 2018 is London-based Israeli choreographer Hofesh Shechter. He was last seen in Hanover more than ten years ago and is now returning with his junior company Shechter II. In the meantime, he has conquered the world of dance with his stirring, energetic productions. On September 4, the festival will present the German premiere of the three-part evening "Show" at the Schauspielhaus, which gives an insight into Shechter's artistic universe.

Youth Development

In addition to many other dance highlights by renowned and up-and-coming choreographers, a festival evening will once again be dedicated to the next generation: Together with the ballet of the Hanover State Opera, the festival is realising the artists' residence programme "Think Big" for the sixth time. The selected talents Lucyna Zwolinska, Yotam Peled and Marioenrico D'Angelo will have the opportunity to work on new pieces with a large ensemble in Hanover in the summer, which can be experienced on a joint evening on September 1 at the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover.
