Taking place on KunstFestSpiele Tag, Vlatka Horvat’s Beginnings Marathon is a public reading performance – with and for the audience. Readers of all ages and backgrounds can participate in the piece, by either bringing a book or e-reader to read from. The book you bring can be in any language, any genre and on any topic – works of literature or non-fiction books, children’s stories or popular histories, pulp novels or classics, poetic texts or technical manuals – or anything else.
Bringing together different texts, readers and languages, Beginnings Marathon fills the space with endless first pages to produce a new cacophonous text; a collage of multiple beginnings, openings and unfinished stories. This participatory performance stages the act of reading out loud to create a community of readers and listeners who come together in a shared space of listening, thinking and imagining.
Favourite books and readers of every age are invited, every language is welcome!
