Inferno – An Italian Revue

The Vatican as a den of iniquity: Jörg Mannes' much appreciated production about the ecstatic ado of Borgia can be seen again at the opera house.

The Vatican as a scenery of "sex and crime" – reality in the 15th century. In his ballet "Inferno – An Italien Revue" Jörg Mannes resorts to this place of disaster and targets conditions that nowadays still belong to the practices of the powerful. The participants dance through scandals, crises and are amused with values and moral, never forgetting heart and mind. The music comes from Adriano Celentano, Ennio Morricone and Dmitri Schostakowitsch.


The centre of the story is Rodrigo Borgia. The Borgia pope Alexander VI. often seemed a devil on the chair of Petri. Not only did he exceed anything with his pomposity and soughing feasts that the Vatican has ever experienced, his exorbitance and insatiability did not even back away from murder. He was no individual case though – instead he seemed to suggest himself as in idol to all power-hungry people of this world...
