Land (Stadt Fluss)

Music theatre / Movie

An unconventional country commune moves into the Orangerie, bringing along a patch of meadow, instruments, something to eat and much more.

Land (Stadt Fluss) looks at the city’s prospects if the future of the theatre is rural. Frankfurt composer Hannes Seidl and Berlin video and film artist Daniel Kötter take lots of time for their music-theatre piece: to listen and watch, to make music, spin a few yarns, work, establish countries and make up rules. They take with them everything you need in the country: famers and craftspeople, brass bands and security guards, flags, pedigree and pyrotechnics. And of course a book to read.

Everything happens in real time, on screen and in the real space in which the musicians interact with each other and the film. For Kötter and Seidl the country is a decelerated place, open for the visionary formation of new communal activity and experience. For five hours their stage becomes a space for the cohabitation of performers, musicians and audience, who together they celebrate, accompany, listen to and observe the many-voiced and atmospherically relaxed founding feast of this country commune.

Daniel Kötter and Hannes Seidl have been working together since 2008 in artistic formats, such as experimental film, installation and performances. The focus of their work is on full-length music-theatre work that are shown at many international festivals.
