Mirjam Sara Jendte Goldschmidt, known as Jente Hameln, was born around 1623 in Hildesheim. Her first husband was the merchant Salman Gans, her second the court and chamber agent Leffmann Behrens Cohen. Her descendants include the poets Heinrich Heine, Carl Sternheim, Karl Wolfskehl, Carl Johann Philipp Spitta and Paul Heyse, the composer Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy and the cultural philosopher Theodor Lessing. Jente Hameln died on July 25, 1695 and rests in the Jewish cemetery.
