Enviromental zone

In the larger cities like Hanover, people are exposed to high levels of air pollutants that can be directly attributed to traffic. In addition to fine dust, these include the pollutant gases carbon monoxide, nitrogen monoxide, nitrogen dioxide and benzene. These pollutants can occur in high concentrations that are harmful to health, especially in busy street canyons with high buildings and little air movement.

An important measure to reduce air pollutants is the designation of an environmental zone in which driving bans for vehicles with high pollutant emissions are provided.
This regulation does not apply to tour busses.
