For over 40 years Hannover has been celebrating the "Tiergartenfest" on the second Saturday in October. This "Thanksgiving Festival for the Acorn and Chestnut Collectors" for the animals in the Tiergarten is (not only) a highlight for children in autumn and meanwhile a classic for families in Hannover and the region.
Highlights of the event include specially costumed walkacts, a forest rally, pony rides, a children's circus and a large meadow with many games. The festival ends at nightfall (around 18:30) with a large lantern parade and music.
A slice of a tree, which is handed out to all children as a reward for the acorns and chestnuts given away, is the free admission ticket. Children up to the age of six also have free admission to the festival. Adults pay two euros, children (up to 14 years) without a tree slice one euro entrance fee.
The event can be reached by tram line 5, stop "Tiergarten".
