Hannover for youth travellers

Hannover: active sports for young people

From inline skating to skateboarding, BMX riding and kickboxing Hannover offers pretty much any activity that is popular with young people.

Auch in diesem Jahr fester Bestandteil des Sportkalenders: Skate by Night.

There are water sports on Lake Maschsee, Lake Steinhude and on the Ihme river. And around 2,000 participants take part in the city's 'Skate by Night' event.

Germany's leafiest city offers plenty of scope for jogging, cycling and inline skating in the Eilenriede forest, Georgengarten park and around Lake Maschsee. Lake Maschsee in particular has become the city's most popular destination for inline skating. The 'Skate by Night' event starts on Klagesmarkt square, where skating enthusiasts meet to skate along car-free roads, followed by a chill-out. The cycling equivalent is Velo City Night, with routes that criss-cross the city.

Buchholz sports centre for young people offers popular niche sports such as BMX, parkour, skateboarding and allows youngsters to practise their hip-hop moves. Climbing centres such as the Springe high ropes course and the SeaTree at Lake Steinhude are also popular. Lake Steinhude is also perfect for kitesurfing, windsurfing and stand-up paddle surfing, and there is even a German Windsurfing and Water Sports Association school here. The skatepark at 2er Skateboarding e.V. offers optimum conditions for skateboarding.
