"The 'November of Science' is a great crowd-puller and shows at the same time the diversity and excellence of university teaching and research at the science location Hannover. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who contribute to the success," said Mayor Stefan Schostok.
As in previous years, the 'open days' at universities and scientific institutions dominate on the weekends. Most offers are free of charge. Traditionally, the "November of Science" revolves around the so-called MINT subjects (mathematics, computer science, natural sciences and technology). But this year current social issues are also addressed by the partner institutions. For example, the Forschungsinstitut für Philosophie is dealing with "racism" in a three-part lecture series, the Volkswagen Foundation is discussing the "Brexit", the Mayors for Peace Association takes a closer look at the Middle East, and the Scientific Society investigates the "German Angst".
Of course, there are also a lot of events dealing with universal genius Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz. In the New Town Hall, the exhibition "Leibniz in best society" tells about his life and work. In addition, universities, libraries and recreation centers invite you to conduct guided tours, lectures and workshops around Leibniz. There is also a special surprise for all geocachers: It is possible to discover 14 'Leibniz-treasures' in Hannover. During the "November of Science", successful geocaschers will be rewarded with a specially crafted Leibniz geocoin.
There is a complete program especially for children, students as well as families with experiments, workshops and exhibitions. This program was compiled by the Cultural Children's and Youth Education of the state capital Hannover, with the participation of many cooperation partners from education and culture.
The complete program can be downloaded here (in German only). On Twitter use hashtag #knowembe.
