Aegidienkirche Memorial

Select Language

The ruins of the Aegidienkirche now serve as a memorial.

The Aegidienkirche was originally built in the 14th century and was later rebuilt by Georg Ludwig Friedrich Laves. It was destroyed in 1943 and only the tower and outer walls were rebuilt. Since then it has served as a memorial for the victims of war and violence. There is a chime on top of the tower and the Hiroshima Peace Bell at the bottom of the tower.
