Be part of the new dance festival

In Melanie Zimmermann's first festival edition, the name „Real Dance Festival" says it all: from 24 to 28 January, the festival celebrates different perspectives and realities in dance, focusing on real bodies, real stories and a real passion for dance.

Finally celebrating the Sports Ball again

The Ball of Sport also had to take a longer break due to coronavirus. In 2024, it will be time again for the state athletes of the year to receive their honours in the Kuppelsaal.

The Lower Saxony Sportsperson of the Year award has been organised since 2004. The prize is awarded as part of the Lower Saxony Sports Ball. The election is organised by the Lower Saxony State Sports Association and the Hanover City Sports Association. The men's award went most frequently to biathlete Arnd Peiffer (six times), the women's award went to triathlete Sandra Wallenhorst, biathlete Franziska Hildebrand and ju-jutsu fighter Mandy Sonnemann (twice each) and the women's football team from VfL Wolfsburg (four times).

Exciting: The Criminale returns to Hannover

When it comes to crime in 2024, the name Hannover will probably be mentioned more often. In the literary sense, of course, as the state capital will become the crime story capital in May.

Steinhude instead of Wasserstadt

„I don't know why this event hasn't been around for a long time!“ For the reigning Ironman age group world champion Christian Haupt, who was one of the first to confirm his entry, the premiere of a triathlon in the Steinhuder Meer region is long overdue: „I know the area from many kilometres of training and think the location is simply perfect. The conditions here are ideal and I see huge potential for the event in the coming years.“

The event has actually been around for a long time, as it is the former Wasserstadt Triathlon, which was last held almost 30 kilometres further east last year. Incidentally, Christian Haupt won back then.

The Boss visits Hannover

Malicious tongues claim that Bruce Springsteen is playing his only concert in Germany in Hanover's football stadium because the other stadiums are occupied due to the European Championships. This is, of course, nonsense, as the first ever stadium concerts in Germany took place in the capital of Lower Saxony: in 1982, Hanover hosted the biggest concert in its history to date - 60,000 people gathered in the Niedersachsenstadion to see the Rolling Stones. Since then, Phil Collins, Genesis, Michael Jackson, Tina Turner, Pink Floyd, Madonna, Bruce Springsteen, AC/DC, Coldplay, Udo Lindenberg and Helene Fischer, among others, have performed here - without any football events in other stadiums ...

Last stop Gleidingen

In December 2023, the light rail extension to Hemmingen went into operation as line 13, and in August 2024, Gleidingen is to become the new terminus of light rail line 2. However, this will be a few months later than originally planned due to delivery problems with a component.

60 years of wrestling at the Schützenplatz

In 1964, the men with the thick muscles and tight wrestling shorts took to the Schützenplatz for the first time. On 60 days of fighting, 105,000 fans came to the tent. On 15 October 2023, Jörg Vespermann, head of POW (Power of Wrestling), announced that „60 years of Catch & Wrestling at the legendary Schützenplatz“ would also be the farewell tour in 2024.
