Highest Representative of the State Capital of Hannover and Head of the City Administration

The Mayor and CEO of the City of Hanover is the highest representative of the State Capital of Hannover and simultaneously the Head of the Administration. Elected directly by the citizens, he holds office for a term of eight years. He officiates full-time as a temporary civil servant.

The Mayor’s and CEO's responsibilities are to direct and supervise the administration of the State Capital and, within the frame of the Council’s guidelines, manage the distribution of transactions. Furthermore he is obligated to inform the Council, the Finance and General Purposes Committee and the City District Councils about significant issues.

The Mayor regularly holds citizens’ consultation hours, for which the dates are coordinated by the Citizens’ Office.
