Cord Broyhan, a native of Stöcken, invented Broyhan beer, named after him, on May 31, 1526. This light, top-fermented beer made Hanover a top-ranking beer city and gave it an unexpected economic boom.
The quality mark of this beer, the Broyhan thaler, became the trademark of the later brewers' guild, in which those authorized to brew had joined together. It is still the trademark of the Lindener Gilde-Bräu, founded in 1546.
