A wild dream and a retro-futurist opera, almost tailor-made for the luxuriant atmosphere of the Galerie in the Herrenhausen Gardens.

It is the year 4020, the venue is a catwalk beneath the chandeliers. The earthlings are looking back to the past and digging up a repertoire of songs and dances going back to the Middle Ages. They comb through cultural history and collaboratively delineate a new world in which concepts of time and gender boundaries have dissolved. They seek the raw power of the voice and body. A wide range of human emotion and performative vision emerges. In an uninterrupted flow of transformation, Meirhaeghe’s theatre becomes a time machine, both nostalgic and futuristic. Out of the past a queer, eccentric future arises – the utopia of a thrilling world full of music.

In this wild ride, Benjamin Abel Meirhaeghe – self-made countertenor, performer and part of the executive team of Antwerp’s Toneelhuis – weaves together elements of opera with pop, electronica, ballet and performance.
